Las Posadas
Las Posadas, a holiday tradition, has been produced by the FCAC and sponsored by the Old Mission San Jose in Fremont annually since 1982.
Join us as we celebrate the advent season with performances by local musical artists for 9 nights beginning December 15.
There are many references to the tradition of Las Posadas on-line. Here is one good example.
For 42 years, Las Posadas has been a Christmas-time tradition at Mission San Jose and provides the local community with music and geniality during the December holiday season.
For nine evenings, starting on December 15th, meet on the porch of the Old Mission San Jose Museum and depart at 6:15pm to walk to a MSJ Chamber of Commerce member site within two blocks while singing holiday songs. For those inclined to fully participate in the Las Posadas tradition, carry the hand-carved statue of Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus, and ask for room at the "inn" (local Chamber of Commerce member site). The host turns us away but eventually welcomes all. Otherwise, join us at the host site around 6:30 pm.
Unique entertainment lasting 30-45 minutes is arranged for each night by the Fremont Cultural Arts Council, concluding with refreshments provided by the host site. On the final night, Mission San Jose invites everyone into the Old Mission Church to enjoy a program of Christmas carols performed live on the Rosales organ, followed by a piñata on the Museum porch for children.
